Cook and Green Pass

Echo Lake overlook from the PCT


Difficulty:     Moderate  (5 miles) - 1130 feet of elevation gain.

Elevation:     We will start at 4770' and hike to the Echo Lake Overlook at 5900', for a total gain of 1130'.

Group Size Limit:     15


Trip Description:     Hike the PCT through the Cook and Green Pass Botanical Area at the boundary between the Applegate and Klamath River watersheds, a hotspot for botanical diversity. See endemic, rare and uncommon species while enjoying views of the Klamath-Siskiyou Mountains and the effects of the 2017 Abney Fire.

Appropriate Footwear:     Hiking boots or sturdy shoes

Meeting Place and Time:     Trip # 35 leaves at 9am from Pacifica.

Driving miles from Pacifica to trailhead:     45 miles one way from Pacifica. (Drive time about 1 hour and 30 minutes.)


Leader:       Dr. Linda Vorobik

Dr. Linda Vorobik holds a PhD from the University of Oregon, Eugene. She is affiliated with the herbaria at the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Washington, Seattle, as well as the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. Linda's work is published in scientific books and journals. A master botanical illustrator, she shares her skills teaching classes in Oregon, California, and elsewhere. Her home is on Lopez Island in Washington state.
