Field Trips
Friday July 12, 2019 11:45 - 1:45 Field Trip # 3
Red Lily Riparian Restoration Tour and Wine Tasting TRIP IS FULL
Difficulty: Easy (1 mile) - Be prepared for long grass, potential for ticks and seed heads in socks.
Elevation: This valley bottom field trip will have no elevation gain.
Group Size Limit: 30
Trip Description: Join Katelyn Detweiler from the Freshwater Trust for a tour of a five-year-old riparian restoration project on the grounds of Red Lily Vineyard. The group will walk the planting area, hearing about the Freshwater Trust's long-term efforts to restore and monitor riparian vegetation in the Rogue Basin. After the tour, members are invited to relax with a glass of local wine by the Applegate River!
Red Lily Vineyard is named after the beautiful red Bolander's lily (Lilium bolanderi), a rare native lily found in the Kalmiopsis and Illinois Valley area of southwestern Oregon's Siskiyou Mountains.
Floristic Highlights: No rare plants; field trip features riparian diversity established on site.
Appropriate Footwear: Sturdy footwear is advised due to tall grass at the site. Any footwear is fine for the optional wine tasting after the tour.
Special Considerations: Wine tasting at Red Lily vineyard will be optional after the riparian restoration tour and is not included within the cost of the Annual Meeting registration. The cost of wine tasting at Red Lily Vineyard will be an additional cost to participants opting to stay for wine tasting.
Meeting Place and Time: Trip # 3 leaves at 11:45 from Pacifica.
Driving Directions: From Pacifica, head north for 2.3 miles on Water Gap Rd toward OR-238. Turn right onto OR-238 E. Drive 9.6 miles on OR-238 and the entrance to Red Lily Vineyard will be on your right. Address: 11777 OR-238, Jacksonville, OR 97530
